In acknowledgment of his exceptional service to global air transport and his active support of Hermes – Air Transport Organisation, the Board of Directors unanimously resolved to confer upon Mr. Sciacchitano the Organization’s highest distinction: the Medal of Hermes.
Upon receiving the award, Mr. Sciacchitano stated:
“It is an honor for me to accept the inaugural Hermes Medal which recognizes my contribution to aviation over the years. Air transportation is one of the economic sectors where a strong sense of community is particularly evident, with close cooperation among the various stakeholders—regulators and industry, airlines and airports alike. Hermes actively contributes to fostering this spirit of collaboration.”
Presenting the Medal on behalf of HERMES, Dr Kostas Iatrou, Director General of the Organization, highlighted Mr. Sciacchitano’s longstanding engagement with HERMES and his lifelong dedication to the advancement of global civil aviation, noting his active participation in the Organization’s activities since its establishment and his consistent support of its mission
The award ceremony was held at the Kostas Iatrou Aviation Museum, which Mr. Sciacchitano had the opportunity to visit on the occasion of the event.
Finally, Dr. Iatrou showed Mr. Sciacchitano of the Air Transport Hall of Fame the exhibition of the first 50 inductees, which is physically presented in the underground passage linking the Satellite Terminal (gates C15–C40) at Athens International Airport.
