MTOS 2025 to highlight global cooperation and sustainable destination development

The International Conference of Mountain Tourism and Outdoor Sports (MTOS) 2025 will open on 11 November in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, China, positioning the region once again as a leading hub for dialogue on mountain tourism development. Under the theme “Integration of Culture, Tourism and Sports Presents a High-Quality Life,” this year’s edition will focus on cooperation, sustainable development, destination marketing and strengthening the global mountain tourism economy.

The programme includes several key events: the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) Annual Conference, the International Mountain Tourism Promotion Conference, a field trip to mountain tourism destinations in Guizhou, and the “Bank of Guizhou – Mountain Culture, Tourism and Outdoor Sport Equipment Exhibition.”

Hosted by IMTA, the Conference is supported by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guizhou Province, the Sport Administration of Guizhou Province, the Foreign Affairs Office of Guizhou Province, the Guiyang Municipal People’s Government, Guizhou Tourism Industry Development Group, and the Guizhou International Cultural Science and Technological Exchange Center. The Bank of Guizhou is the Conference’s title sponsor.

As a core component of the event, the IMTA Annual Conference 2025 will serve as a strategic platform for industry exchange and collaboration. Discussions will cover the “IMTA 2025 Work Summary and 2026 Priorities,” while the new publication Innovation in Mountain Tourism and Community Co-development will be released. The second group of designations for “World Famous Tourism Mountains” and “International Mountain Hiking Tourism Demonstration Routes” will also be announced, alongside the induction of new IMTA members.

The International Mountain Tourism Promotion Conference 2025, themed “Promote Mountain Prosperity and Create Shared Brilliance,” will gather tourism authorities, embassies, mountain destination organisations and industry stakeholders. Participants will exchange insights on developing world-class mountain tourism destinations, share best practices in sustainability and destination management, and showcase achievements in responsible mountain tourism. The session will include the launch of the Research Report on Strategies for Developing Guizhou’s Inbound Tourism Market Targeting Key Countries in the Asia-Pacific Region, offering valuable data for travel trade professionals and destination marketers.

A key attraction for attendees will be the “Bank of Guizhou – Mountain Culture, Tourism and Outdoor Sport Equipment Exhibition,” featuring photography under the theme “Life Amid the Earth’s Folds”, as well as cultural tourism products and innovative outdoor sports equipment. The exhibition aims to highlight the cultural richness of mountain destinations, promote outdoor lifestyle trends and enhance the visitor experience.

MTOS 2025 presents an opportunity to explore emerging mountain tourism models, strengthen partnerships, source new products, and gain insight into evolving traveller expectations around nature-based tourism. As interest in outdoor experiences and sustainable travel continues to grow globally, the Conference is set to play a role in shaping future mountain tourism strategies for the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
