Indonesia’s Ministry of tourism sets ambitious 2025 targets to Boost Economic Growth

Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has outlined ambitious objectives for 2025, aiming to significantly enhance the sector’s contribution to the nation’s economy.

Minister Sandiaga Uno expressed confidence in achieving these targets during a recent meeting with the Indonesian House of Representatives.

The ministry’s primary goals for 2025 include:

  • Economic Contribution: Elevate tourism’s share of Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to 4.6%.
  • Foreign Exchange Earnings: Generate approximately USD 22.1 billion in foreign exchange revenues.
  • International Tourist Arrivals: Attract between 14.6 million and 16 million foreign visitors.

To support these objectives, the government plans to facilitate 1.08 billion domestic tourist trips and create employment opportunities for 25.8 million individuals within the tourism sector.

The ministry is committed to implementing innovative strategies to realize these ambitions.

One of the key strategies involves the development of gastronomic tourism, which has been identified as a priority to entice international travellers.

By showcasing Indonesia’s rich culinary heritage, the ministry aims to offer unique and immersive experiences that appeal to global tourists.

Additionally, the ministry is focusing on the development of five super-priority destinations: Lake Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, and Likupang.

These destinations are being enhanced to meet international standards, offering diverse attractions ranging from natural beauty to cultural heritage.

The ministry also emphasizes the importance of sustainable and quality tourism.

Efforts are underway to ensure that tourism development aligns with environmental conservation and community empowerment, providing authentic experiences for visitors while benefiting local populations.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, the tourism ministry is implementing health protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of tourists.

This initiative aims to build trust among travelers and position Indonesia as a safe and desirable destination in the post-pandemic era.

Furthermore, the ministry is leveraging digital technology to promote tourism.

Through various online platforms and campaigns, Indonesia’s attractions are being showcased to a global audience, making it easier for potential visitors to access information and plan their trips.

Minister Sandiaga Uno remains optimistic about achieving these targets, stating that with collaborative efforts and innovative approaches, Indonesia’s tourism sector can reach new heights by 2025.

In summary, Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has set comprehensive and ambitious goals for 2025, focusing on economic contribution, foreign exchange earnings, and international tourist arrivals.

Through strategic initiatives in destination development, sustainable practices, health protocols, and digital promotion, the ministry is dedicated to transforming Indonesia into a leading global tourism destination.
