75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Milan sets new standards for global space cooperation

 


MILAN – The 

 (IAC) transformed Milan into a global hub for space innovation, breaking attendance records and showcasing the brightest minds and technologies in space exploration.

The five-day congress, held from 14 to 18 October at Milan‘s MiCo Convention Centre, attracted more than 11.200 delegates from 120 countries, far exceeding expectations and underlining the growing interest in the future of space.

Organised by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) with the local host, the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA), and the co-hosts, the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and Leonardo, with the support of AIM Group International as PCO, the IAC’s milestone event featured groundbreaking developments, including the reveal of new NASA lunar suits by Prada and Axiom Space, designed for the highly anticipated Artemis III mission – the first manned lunar landing since 1972.

Unprecedented Attendance and Participation

With Milan’s vibrant appeal and Italy’s pivotal role in aerospace, the Congress saw unmatched levels of engagement. Over 500 exhibitors from 46 countries showcased cutting-edge technologies across an impressive 8.500 square meters, while interactive displays, live demonstrations, and immersive experiences captivated thousands of attendees. A record online audience of 3.000 also tuned in worldwide, reinforcing the event’s broad reach and influence.

In a historic first, the IAF Global Space Leaders’ Summit convened 60 space agency heads and leaders, marking a milestone in global policy collaboration and a strong step towards unified space governance.

A Powerhouse Program of Science, Technology, and Inspiration

The Congress delivered a premier scientific agenda with over 200 sessions and over 4.000 speakers from 96 countries, cementing IAC 2024 as the leading platform for the latest breakthroughs in space exploration and technology. Plenary sessions, interactive panels, and technical discussions encouraged dynamic knowledge exchange and highlighted bold innovations and visionary goals for the future of space.

Social and Cultural Highlights: Uniting Global Minds

IAC 2024 wasn’t just about science; it was a cultural and social landmark, fostering connections between delegates from all walks of life. The Gala Dinner dazzled attendees with a space-inspired fashion show led by Raffles Milan Institute students, blending Milan’s iconic fashion scene with the future of space. Events like the opening ceremony, attended by 2.000 delegates in the plenary hall and a further 3.000 in satellite rooms, and the welcome reception with 4.500 guests, created an atmosphere of camaraderie and cross-cultural exchange. On the event’s final day, the congress opened its doors to the public, drawing in over 3.500 visitors, including high school and university students, to witness and engage with the wonders of space.
