Study: Sea change as cruise guests getting younger

A study has found a significant drop in the average age of cruise guests.

Cruise.co.uk, crunched the numbers based on half a million cruise bookings, finding the average age is now 55 years old, down from 66 prior to the pandemic in 2019.

Its research found the youngest cruise guest was just six months old, while the oldest was 98.

Cruise.co.uk says the under 30s age range has seen the largest increase in new to cruise customers.

It makes up 14% of the total.

There are a number of reasons for the drop in average age, it says.

One is the growing popularity of multi-generational family cruise holidays.

The most popular destinations for younger cruisers are the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and the Caribbean.

Cruise.co.uk’s sister company, Seascanner has also seen a definite decrease in their average age of cruise customers.

For bookings made in 2024 so far, the average age is even lower at 42 years.

“These findings are clear evidence of cruise’s growing appeal to a wider audience: said Tony Andrews, managing director of cruise.co.uk,
