Zanzibar mandates inbound travel insurance for all foreign visitors from Oct 1, 2024, ensuring coverage for emergencies during their stay of up to 92 days.
The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar is set to introduce a significant new requirement for foreign visitors entering the island, starting October 1, 2024. As per the advisory issued on August 5, 2024, non-residents traveling to Zanzibar through seaports or airports must now carry valid Inbound Travel Insurance. This insurance must cover their stay for up to 92 days, ensuring visitors have protection during their time on the island.
This new policy has been established to prioritize the safety and well-being of travelers. By requiring comprehensive coverage for emergencies like repatriation and evacuation, the government aims to minimize risks for visitors and create a safer, more secure travel environment. The measure reflects Zanzibar’s dedication to enhancing the visitor experience and ensuring peace of mind for all tourists.
To comply with the mandate, foreign visitors must purchase inbound travel insurance exclusively from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation. After purchasing the insurance, travelers will receive a QR code, which serves as proof of coverage and must be presented upon arrival. This purchase must be completed before embarking on their journey, as failure to comply with the requirement may result in denied entry at immigration checkpoints.
The government has emphasized the importance of this new rule in safeguarding both visitors and the island’s vital tourism sector. By taking this step, officials hope to protect the interests of tourists and reduce potential risks that may arise during their stay. Visitors are encouraged to make necessary preparations ahead of their trip to ensure a hassle-free experience.
This travel requirement will be subject to periodic review and adjustments as needed. The government remains committed to maintaining a secure and enjoyable travel experience for all visitors while adapting to evolving circumstances in the global travel landscape.\
