Volotea, the fastest-growing airline in Europe, continues to strengthen and expand its presence in France, announcing the opening of its tenth base in the country at Rodez-Aveyron Airport. This expansion follows the airline’s successful bid to operate the public service obligation (PSO) between Rodez-Aveyron and Paris Orly with flights starting from September 2nd, 2024.

Volotea has won the public tender held by the French State and Syndicat Mixte for the Development and Operation of Rodez-Aveyron Airport. The airline has secured the PSO contract as defined by European aviation regulations, which is designed to enhance the region's economic and social development.
This new connection, crucial for ensuring seamless connectivity between the two cities, will be operated with two daily flights from Monday to Friday and one flight on Sunday. For 2025, the airline plans to offer a total of 178,000 seats on approximately 1,140 flights, anticipating an average seat load factor of over 90% for this connection. The direct route will be operated with an Airbus A319 aircraft, which will be based at Rodez-Aveyron Airport.
Carlos Muñoz, Founder and CEO of Volotea, said, “We are very pleased with the outcome of this tender. It is a great result that once again confirms our focus on the French territory, which has always been strategic for the growth of our network and is our primary market. This new route, which is our second PSO route operating from Paris Orly after Lourdes, aligns with our expansion plans by facilitating the opening of our tenth base in France. At the same time, it enables us to better meet the travel needs of local citizens and entrepreneurs, making it easier for them to reach the French capital, while also promoting job creation and further driving the local economic development of Rodez.”
Rodez will be Volotea's tenth base in France, joining bases in Bordeaux, Brest, Lille, Lourdes, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Strasbourg, and Toulouse. With the opening of this new base – the third that Volotea will inaugurate this year after Brest in April 2024 and Bari in July 2024 – the airline will generate new employment opportunities in the region, creating over 30 jobs.
