Austrian Airlines publishes Environmental Report 2023

Austrian Airlines was once again successfully validated in accordance with the most demanding global environmental management standard, the European EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) regulation, and certified with the international ISO 14001 standard for environmental management systems. This confirms the company's continuous commitment to the highest environmental standards. The Austrian Airlines environmental management system was audited for the second time in 2024. The external auditors once again recognized the outstanding expertise of the employees responsible for EMAS implementation.

As part of the renewed validation, Austrian Airlines is also publishing its environmental report for the 2023 reporting year(German only), in which the company provides comprehensive information on its environmental progress and underlines its commitment to more sustainable action.

"Certification in accordance with the requirements of the EMAS regulation is a demanding process for the entire company and involves a high level of commitment. However, we are happy to accept this, as our environmental management system enables us to systematically demonstrate our steps towards a more sustainable future and identify further potential for optimization," says CEO Annette Mann.

EMAS is a voluntary instrument of the European Union that helps companies to continuously improve their environmental performance. EMAS registration covers all the requirements of the international environmental management standard ISO 14001 and supplements these with additional requirements.

Austrian Airlines continuously implements projects and measures to reduce its environmental impact and use the resources it requires as efficiently as possible. As part of the Lufthansa Group, Austrian Airlines focuses in particular on accelerated fleet modernization, the continuous optimization of flight operations, the use and further development of sustainable aviation fuels and offers for private travelers and corporate customers to make air travel more sustainable.
