Passenger traffic handled by Flughafen Wien AG showed a significant increase also in the first month of the year 2024. In January 2024, total passenger volume in the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) rose 12.0% to 2,325,772 travellers. The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport was up by 9.5% to 1,828,557 travellers compared to the prior-year month of January 2023.
The number of local passengers at Vienna Airport in January 2024 rose to 1,453,789, comprising a rise of 9.6% compared to January 2023, and transfer passenger traffic was up 8.9% to 366,910 travellers. The number of flight movements in January 2024 climbed 5.2% year-on-year to 15,175 take-offs and landings. Cargo volume equalled 20,890 tonnes, up 16.2% from January 2023.

Passenger traffic from Vienna Airport to Western Europe rose to 633,241 travellers in January 2024, comprising an increase of 12.5% compared to the prior-year month. The number of passengers flying to Eastern Europe in January 2024 amounted to 131,530 travellers (+4.1%). Vienna Airport reported a total of 25,004 passengers flying to North America (+22.1%) and 21,982 (-5.1%) to destinations in Africa. Passenger traffic to destinations in the Middle East in January 2024 fell 6.6% to 66,377 travellers, whereas the number of passengers flying to the Far East climbed to 38,388 (+25.7%) in the month of January 2024.
The strategic investments of Flughafen Wien AG also developed very well. Malta Airport reported a rise in passenger volume in January 2024 to 465,482 travellers (+22.7%). Kosice Airport handled 31,733 passengers, up 15.6% from the prior-year month.
