Thailand is teasing extra-long visa-free stays for European tourists.
In a move to lure more travelers from Europe, Prime Minister’s aide Prommin Lertsuridej said vis-free stays could be extended to up to 90 days.
It is a move to make up the shortfall of travelers from China which has seemingly stalled in recent months.
The Thailand visa-free stay extension would triple the current validity.
It would likely be phased in with a select number of countries.
Local media report these would be the UK, Germany and Scandinavian nations.
It would also apply to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
Europe makes up about 20% of total tourist arrivals to Thailand.
Thailand has so far welcomed nearly three million Chinese tourists which is about one million below its target.
Inbound traffic from China has slowed following a mall shooting which killed a Chinese woman.
