1st Meeting of the Safety Committee of Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority

The first meeting of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority Safety Committee took place on Thursday, July 27th, 2023 at the HCAA premises, with the participation of representatives from the country's major aviation stakeholders.

The Governor of the HCAA, Dr. Christos Tsitouras, referred to the challenges associated with the adoption of new technologies in civil aviation and the crucial role of the HCAA Safety Committee in matters related to the management of safety in a constantly evolving aviation environment, while also emphasizing on the importance of the HCAA’s intensive oversight activities, that aim in monitoring the implementation of National, European and International requirements on a continuous basis.

The two main speakers, G. Kasimatis and K. Ntouros, presented the Committee's modus operandi, the European (EASA) and International (ICAO) Aviation Safety Plan and the 2022 Annual Safety Review, that was prepared by HCAA. In addition, they focused on the need to define aviation Safety Performance Indicators, and decide the necessary actions, in order to monitor the State’s aviation safety level and to improve the "safety culture", through increased incident reporting by aviation organizations.

The Committee's proceedings, along with the active involvement of the aviation stakeholders, will form the basis for the first National Plan for Aviation Safety, which is expected to be issued by HCAA in the last quarter of 2023.
