Pride Month: Best Gay Pride Carnivals in Europe

June is always known for Pride Month. And from now the celebration begins. Clourful parades, street arts, performing arts educating all about LGBTQ+ are common. Pride Month commemorates years of struggle for civil rights and the ongoing pursuit of equal justice under the law for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer communities, as well as the accomplishments of LGBTQ individuals.

This year also a travel advisory warning for Florida has been issued to the largest LGBTQ + rights organization in the U.S. and other civil rights organisations on last month stating that the newly passed laws and policies may pose risks to minorities, immigrants, and gay travellers.

This article is about to explore Europe’s some of the most popular Gay Pride festivals and events celebrating by the LGBTQ communities. The celebration looks like a carnival, where all people of same communities meet, greet and walk in pride.

Vienna Pride, Vienna, Austria

June 1 — June 18

Vienna, in the heart of Europe, is once again having its enormous Pride celebration. The festival will last two and a half weeks and will be jam-packed with workshops, presentations, and other events aimed at encouraging equality. The five-kilometer Pride Run will be held again on June 3, and the parade will culminate the celebration on June 17.

Disneyland Paris Pride, Paris, France

June 17

Think again if you thought the idea of a Pride event couldn’t get much louder, more colourful, or more enchantingly cheerful. Commercial kitsch may not be everyone’s idea of Pride, but if you’re a queer Disney lover, you might be interested to know that you can celebrate diversity till the wee hours of the morning right in the heart of Disneyland Paris. The event will take place at Walt Disney Studios Park and will include a parade, entertainment, and a disco in addition to the normal attractions.

London Pride, England

July 1

Unsurprisingly, London Pride is the largest event of its kind in the United Kingdom, and one of the largest in Europe. Pride demonstrations have been a feature in London for almost a half-century, and organisers and participants alike will make sure that their opinions are heard at this year’s march. A week later, on July 8, the London Trans+ Pride march will take place, and United Kingdom Black Pride – a festival fostering awareness of the experiences of LGBT people of colour — is scheduled for August 20. You wouldn’t expect anything less from the British capital, which is one of the most varied cities in the world.

Madrid Pride Parade, Spain

July 1

Since 1979, the Madrid Pride Parade, known as “Orgullo Gay,” has been held yearly. It has grown to be Europe’s largest homosexual demonstration, with support from LGTB organisations, businesses, political parties, and labour unions. With over 1.5 million guests in 2009, it represents Madrid’s exuberant celebration of diversity and LGBTQ+ rights.

Reykjavík Pride, Iceland

August 8 — August 13

Every year, roughly one-third of Iceland’s population attends Reykjavik Pride, or Hinsegin Dagar. The party boat — a gay cruise that takes you around the city’s shoreline and nearby islands — is a unique feature of the festivities here. August is a fantastic month to visit Iceland in general, so be sure to learn about all the other exciting activities you can see and do.

EuroPride, Malta

September 7 — September 17

EuroPride is a pan-continental event held each year in a different European city, but not usually in June. It attracts lecturers, performers, activists, and attendees from all across Europe and the world. Malta will host EuroPride this year, a fitting honour for a nation that constantly ranks first in ILGA Europe’s index of countries for LGBTQ+ safety, which means Valetta, the small capital, is bracing itself for thousands of ecstatic tourists.
