Tourism Australia launching marketing campaign in China

Tourism Australia is inaugurating a marketing campaign in China. China is reopening its borders. However, the COVID-19 testing requirements will continue to be followed as usual.

The Australian tourism body is inaugurating a localized form of the ‘Don’t go small, go Australia’ promotion, which was made for other countries when Australia reopened its boundaries in February 2022.

China was Australia’s largest global tourism market, with 1.4 million visitors from China visiting Australia each year prior to the pandemic.

Chinese tourists spent approximately $12.4 billion every year prior to the pandemic.

Phillipa Harrison, Tourism Australia managing director said that Chinese travelers coming back to Australia at the moment is the right time to holiday at the number one tourism market and meet enduring partners.

Harrison would meet with stakeholders and airlines in China this month.

Prior to the pandemic, there were 158 flights from China every week.

Presently, flights are operating at 23 per cent capacity compared to February 2019. Harrison is aiming to increase that to 80 per cent by the end of this year.

Harrison said that Tourism Australia will also inaugurate a type of the ‘Don’t go small, go Australia’ campaign to prompt Chinese travelers as to why there is nothing like Australia and also capitalize on the holidaying friends and relatives market.
