FABEC CEO Board remains focused on environmental performance in annual leadership change to ANA Luxembourg

In the Functional Airspace Block Europe Central (FABEC) annual change of leadership of the CEO Board of Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs),

Claudio Clori, Director of Administration de la Navigation Aérienne (ANA) Luxembourg, has taken over as chairman from John Santurbano, Director of the EUROCONTROL Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC).

Over the past 12 months, FABEC ANSPs have maintained clear focus on environmental performance, delivering shorter routes and improved flight paths for airspace users. “Our collaboration enabled us to optimise common boundaries, and we’ve introduced new extended arrival management procedures to help to reduce airport holding,” said John Santurbano. “However, traffic demand is still volatile in the aftermath of the pandemic and traffic flows remain disrupted as a result of the war in Ukraine. Our first objective remains the delivery of safe and efficient air navigation services.”

Claudio Clori thanked John Santurbano for his work over the past year and re-iterated FABEC’s commitment to performance improvement. “Providing resilient air traffic services remains a core objective of the CEO Board as traffic demand continues to fluctuate. We are focused on strengthening our strategic capabilities in areas such as climate-friendly operations and see cross-border cooperation as an essential part of this process.”

Claudio Clori began his 12-month role at the start of January 2023. Based on the annual rotating principle he will be deputised by Johan Decuyper, CEO skeyes. The airspace of the six FABEC States of Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Switzerland is one of the busiest and most complex in the world. The majority of the major European airports, major civil airways and military training areas are located in this area. FABEC airspace covers 1.7 million km² and handles about 55% of European air traffic.
