Philippines Department of Tourism and Thailand extends ties

 

Philippines Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco met Thailand Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MOTS) Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn last week. The result of the meeting has come out to be a renewal of the bilateral agreement.

They met on the sideline of the 11th Asia-pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and Tourism Ministerial Meeting (TMM) to discuss the plans regarding the renewal.

Both parties signed the contract in 2017. The program name is an original implementing programme. The Tourism Cooperation Agreement has been signed for 2017 to 2022 on 21st March.

Thailand’s tourism minister said that they are delighted to have the contract already extended. It is indeed a very good idea to share the tourists from different departments. This way Thailand can get access to tourists from the Philippines. He also said that the idea that the Philippines has more tourists than Thailand needs to be changed. Shared tourism is the best possible way out of this.

Apart from 14 August calculations, the Philippines has registered 1.2 million visitors. From that vast number, only 6401 tourists actually came from Thailand. During the meeting, Secretary Frasco explored the possibility of collaborating with Thailand to enhance Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism, and educational tourism This plan is going to be popular with English as a second language, and food tourism.

Many tourism and travel-related businessmen and travel agents attended the session that including but were never limited to Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA), Esque Lifestyle & Travel; Jubilee Travel Co Ltd; Dive Potato; SC World Express; Big World Holiday; Worldwide Agency Co Ltd; Abroad Land; Pleione Travel Co Ltd; Supertrips Co Ltd; All Around Trading & Holidays Co Ltd; Kor Pun Gun; Bright Idea; Mango Learning Express; Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific Air (Thailand); Thai Air Asia; and Siam Tourism Group.
