$19.6 billion expenditure record for Queensland tourism

This nation-leading $19.6 billion expenditure is a record for tourism in Queensland with regard to domestic Overnight Visitor Expenditure (OVE), and 1.1 per cent higher compared to the times before the pandemic. A huge part of this record-breaking achievement is a 22 percent increase in traveler spending, going up by an extra $1.9 billion in the year till June.

Domestic visitors this year till June 2022 spent an overwhelming $19.6 billion on sharing Queensland’s wonderful lifestyle, supporting better and secure tourism jobs.

Queensland’s record-breaking domestic visitor expenditure was publicized in the latest National and International Visitor Surveys released by Tourism Research Australia, on the occasion of World Tourism Day.

In the Far North, Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe stated that expenditure has been turbo-charged by interstate visitors and Queenslanders discovering their own backyard.

Mr. Hinchliffe said that he cannot think of a better way of commemorating World Tourism Day this year than a confidence heightening $19.6 billion spending on Queensland visitor experiences.

He said that there is also a 66 per cent upsurge in domestic visitor expenditure in Queensland in the course of the June 2022 quarter.

It shows that domestic tourism in Queensland is gradually coming back from the pandemic woes with travelers seeking operators who are aiming to deliver new, top-notch experiences for visitors.

Tourism Research Australia’s study specifies that Queensland’s share of domestic tourism expenditure tops Australia at 28.5 per cent, which is three and 10 per cent greater than NSW and Victoria, respectively.
