Cabin crew on board airline easyJet are experiencing unprecedented use of sick bags - and it has nothing to do with turbulence.

A viral video has inspired passengers to use airline sick bags as a phone holder for hands-free movie viewing.

A TikTok hack video, recorded on an easyJet flight two weeks ago, was uploaded by British make-up artist Lielle Mua: https://www.tiktok.com/@lielle123/video/7125867502063619334

In the film Lielle removes her phone cover and slips a sick bag in-between the case and device. She then opens the tray table and slides in the other half of the bag – securing it with the lock. Her video has received over 11.5 Million views.

Dozens of other travellers have recreated the hack - uploading their own versions to the social media platform.

Inspired by Lielle’s video, the airline’s cabin crew have created an instructional demonstration video to show passengers how to use the quirky hack, ensuring that those having fun with the hack remain eyes-forward for the safety briefing - and return the sick bag for the next passenger to use and help reduce waste.

This may be the latest craze to hit the skies, but many flyers may not know that the airline is already equipped for a TV series binge in the air, with tray tables on most easyJet flights featuring a built-in phone holder to allow for easy viewing, which the crew also reveal to customers as part of the demo.

Tina Milton, Cabin Services Director at easyJet said:

“Our crew go the extra mile to make sure our passengers have enjoyable flight and so they have been inspired to create our very own inflight demonstration video to show how to recreate this creative hack, and reveal other ways customers can enjoy their own in-flight entertainment after take-off, as well as helping to reduce waste by kindly leaving the bags for the next passengers on board.
