Important tourism destinations in Europe ready for a thriving summer without Russian visitors

Important tourism destinations in Europe are ready for a thriving summer season sans visitors from Russia due to restrictions regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict and ensuing measures implemented by the country’s capital Moscow.

Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia has wanted to penalize countries who have brought limitations against Russia.

On the 4th of April, Putin postponed features of a 2006 visa simplification arrangement between Russia and other “unfriendly” European Union members who have enforced sanctions toward Russia following its Ukraine attack.

President Putin has brought in a travel advisory, asking Russians to refrain from traveling to “dangerous” countries in Europe. He said that instead, they can visit India, Turkey and Sri Lanka among other countries that have not condemned Russia’s attack of Ukraine or have brought in restrictions.

Nevertheless, in Greece, the government along with many hoteliers is hopeful about their tourism business.

Manolis Elpidis is the General Manager at the Atlantica Caldera Palace in Crete. He said that in their hotel, in place of Russians, they have customers mostly from the UK. The season has kicked off on a positive note. If the same momentum carries on, without any problems surfacing, business is expected to reach 80 percent of the levels of 2019.

The Greek government has fixed this target, on the basis of tourism reaching up to 60 percent last year of the levels of the times before the pandemic.
