Upcoming MSC Cruise Ship To Be Named In New York City

MSC Cruises’ upcoming United States flagship — MSC Seascape — is set to be named in New York City this December shortly after her debut.

The vessel’s naming ceremony will be held at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on Wednesday, December 7. Academy Award-winning star Sophia Loren will serve as godmother for this ship, just as she has done for 17 previous MSC Cruises vessels.

“We are particularly pleased to celebrate this momentous milestone in New York City, which holds a special place in our Group’s history, having been served by ships from the MSC Group’s cargo division since 1985,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises.

“We could not think of a better way of celebrating such a significant milestone than holding MSC Seascape’s – our latest flagship – naming ceremony in this wonderful city that has been an important hub for MSC Group for over three decades.”

MSC Seascape will be the cruise line’s first ship to be named in New York City — reflecting the line’s upcoming expansion to New York with year-round cruises available from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal starting in April 2023.

During the naming ceremony, invited guests will enjoy live entertainment and performances, along with a gala dinner and an opportunity to explore the vessel’s venues and experiences.

MSC Seascape will sail to Miami immediately following the ceremony for an inaugural season in the Caribbean. The ship will be the second Seaside EVO-class ship and the fourth in the Seaside class overall.

From PortMiami, the ship will offer seven-night cruises to the eastern Caribbean with calls to MSC’s private island Ocean Cay, San Juan, and Puerto Plata. It will also operate western Caribbean voyages with stops in Ocean Cay, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Ocho Rios.

Highlights of MSC Seascape include:

  • 2,270 cabins in 12 unique categories
  • 11 dining venues plus 19 bars and lounges
  • Six swimming pools, including an aft infinity pool
  • The largest MSC Yacht Club in the fleet
  • A 1,772-foot waterfront promenade
  • The glass-floored Bridge of Sighs on deck 16

The ship’s environmental technologies will include selective catalytic reduction systems on each of the four engines, reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90 percent and converting gas into nitrogen and water. Separate hybrid exhaust gas cleaning systems will remove 98 percent of sulphur oxide from ship emissions.

MSC Seascape will also have the best-in-class wastewater treatment systems with purification standards higher than most treatment facilities on land. Various energy-efficiency improvements across the ship will include heat recovery systems and LED lighting to save energy.
