Kerala to promote wedding tourism for resurrecting the tourism sector

Kerala will also promote caravan tourism to discover new possibilities for tourism. The state budget has set aside Rs. 5 crore for initiating caravan parks and improving infrastructure. This is expected to attract visitors and ramp up investment opportunities.

The Caravan Tourism project, ‘Keravan Kerala’ was launched by the state tourism department for taking its tourism industry to the next level of growth. Caravan tourism is especially targeted toward those who are unwilling to go out and travel in a pandemic situation so they can safely travel in a caravan.

The first caravan park in Kerala has already been inaugurated at Vagamon, which is a major tourist destination in Idukki district. More caravan parks will soon take off in Marayoor and Malampuzha.

Kerala tourism and public works minister PA Mohammad Riyas said that the state will promote wedding tourism for resurrecting the tourism sector.

To quote Riyas, “As people were coming from other states and abroad for the wedding, there is a possibility of wedding tourism in the state. We have started the campaigns for this.”

Kerala will also encourage motorbike rides to the hill stations of Kerala and evaluate the perspective of helicopter tourism — connecting travelers to popular destinations that are not easily accessible.

In order to promote the homestay segment badly impacted by Covid, Kerala is contemplating digital marketing. Kerala is expecting an increase in the number of tourists this season, said Riyad.

The minister also said that tourism clubs would be created in colleges for curbing dumping of waste in popular tourist destinations.
