For tourism sector workers, Egypt health minister has requested for COVID-19 booster shots

Acting Minister of Health, Egypt, Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, has recently been called for managing booster coronavirus vaccine shots to all tourism sector workers, the ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

During a meeting, Abdel-Ghaffar had mentioned about the same. Abdel-Ghaffar has also affirmed in the same meeting that coordinating with the education ministry will also be done to vaccinate the rest of students in schools during the second semester. Students are scheduled to start the second semester of the current academic year on 19 February.

Abdel-Ghaffar said that the governorates of Beheira and Giza are accounted for the largest share of children, aged between 12-18 years, who have received the coronavirus vaccine.

At present, to inoculate children in this age range, Egypt is making use of the Pfizer vaccine and is studying lowering the minimum age to five years old.

Egypt expanded its vaccination campaign to schools from November, allowing students who might not otherwise receive the shot to be vaccinated.

In January 2021, since it started its campaign, Egypt has vaccinated more than 25.7 million people completely and provided booster shots to 615,876 people, as per the health ministry late on Saturday.
