Norwegian Announces Next Prima-Class Cruise Ship

Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed the name and details on the next ship in its Prima-class — Norwegian Viva. The vessel will be the second in the class following Norwegian Prima, which is scheduled to debut this summer.

The ship will feature a redefined The Haven area, which is Norwegian’s keycard-access ship-within-a-ship concept. The Haven will feature an expansive sundeck, infinity pool, and outdoor spa. It will include 107 suites.

Norwegian Viva will feature 44,000 square foot outdoor walkway Ocean Boulevard, Indulge Food Hall with 11 eateries, Onda by Scarpetta specialty Italian restaurant, infinity-style pools at Infinity Beach, glass over-water bridges, and The Concourse with an outdoor sculpture garden.

Amenities will include the fastest freefall drop slides at sea and the Viva Speedway three-level racetrack.

The vessel’s hull art has been designed by Italian graffiti and sculpture artist Manuel Di Rita, commonly known as “Peeta.” Di Rita also illustrated the hull design for Norwegian Prima.

Norwegian Prima and Viva will feature alternative technologies such as a NOx reduction system (SCR) that reduce the ship’s environmental impact. SCR catalysts filter out sulfur oxides up to 98 percent and nitrogen oxides up to 90 percent.

The ships will also be equipped with an Exhaust Gas Cleaning System, an Advanced Wastewater Treatment System to treat and clean all wastewater to meet stringent international standards, and Cold Ironing functionality to connect to onshore power grids to further reduce emissions while in port.

                                   Indulge Food Hall

Following a string of inaugural cruises and beginning in June 2023, Norwegian Viva will be the newest ship embarking in the Mediterranean. From June 15, 2023, to November 6, 2023 she will operate a series of eight, nine, and 10-night cruises from Lisbon, Portugal; Trieste (Venice), Italy; Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy; and Athens (Piraeus), Greece.

On December 15, 2023, Viva will become the largest new ship to ever homeport in San Juan, Puerto Rico when she sets sail on a seven-night Caribbean voyage. The ship will spend the winter sailing from San Juan on seven and nine-night Southern Caribbean cruises.

Bookings on Norwegian Viva are now open for sale.
