The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans continues to redefine luxury in the Crescent City, as the Beaux-Arts hotel has debuted its most lavish suite yet, The Residence, along with a renewal of The Ritz-Carlton Spa, New Orleans.
Enlisting Marzipan Interior Designs for The Residence and Jinnie Kim Design for The Ritz-Carlton Spa, these transformations seamlessly blend the elegance of the hotel with the playful nature of New Orleans, creating dynamic spaces for guests and locals alike.
“The city of New Orleans sets the stage for the design in a number of ways. First, the architectural language of the space was designed to honor New Orleans’ legacy through timeless design in the classical details and finishes, while mixing in contemporary accents for a blended eclectic mix that is reminiscent of collections found in a historic New Orleans home. Then, the distinctive surroundings of the city evoked a unique sense of place that informed the furniture, fixtures, color palette and plantscape. The culturally rich, diverse people with a unique lifestyle, history and expressive artistry who have inspired an incredible variety of arts that are reflected in the suite’s original artwork and accents,” said Joanna Kerr, senior designer, Marzipan Interior Designs.

The Residence Suite
The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans unveils its crown jewel, The Residence, boasting more than 6,500 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor living space high above the French Quarter. True to its name, The Residence provides all the comforts of home with two bedrooms, living room, dining room and fully equipped kitchen, as well as an expansive private outdoor terrace for relaxation or entertaining overlooking the city.
“The renovation of this rooftop Penthouse is inspired by the Bohemian nature of the city that surrounds it,” Kerr said. “In looking through a luxury lens with a new perspective, the design details express all the components that make up the layered cultural heritage of New Orleans. The design aesthetic includes unexpected moments where elegance meets decadence, and expressive artistry pays homage to the sophistication of the Ritz-Carlton brand.”
The hotel’s original charm and grace have been captured within the suite, while the destination has been distinctively woven throughout with an art collection of regional artists in a variety of mediums curated by local galleries including Arthur Roger Gallery, Octavia Gallery and Carol Robinson Gallery. Design elements inspired by the city’s many hidden courtyards, the hotel’s French Quarter location and history, as well as the sophisticated residences found in the Garden District, are infused within the color palette, furnishings and decor of the expansive new suite. Highlights include a dramatic photo of The Palais Garnier that greets guests upon arrival into the suite, French silk wallpaper adding an elegant touch to each space, and wooden herringbone flooring throughout.

The Residence boasts a 3,500-sq.-ft. outdoor terrace, ideal for entertaining and private events of up to 100 with sweeping views of New Orleans. An outdoor seating area with a fireplace and water feature provides an ideal space for relaxation and intimate conversation, while a garden and overlook is the perfect setting for an event or intimate wedding. Interiors spanning 3,400 sq. ft. provide ample space for a family or friends to stay and gather in one place or intimate private events for up to 50 indoors. Highlights include a dining room ideal for hosting parties of up to 10, fireplaces crackling in the living room and primary bedroom, oversized soaking tubs in well-appointed marble bathrooms, as well as access to the Maison Orleans Club Lounge for overnight stays.
“The design tells the story of a city that embraces the beguiling decadence that is inherent in its setting, creating an ambiance that is imbued with grace and patinated history,” Kerr said. “We wanted the design to reflect the unique and distinctive blend of grit, Southern grace and timeless hospitality that New Orleans offers up while evoking the sense of discovery visitors have as they weave their way through hidden passages to lush inner courtyards that give glimpses of the heart, soul and stories of the people that live and work here.”
The Residence is now available for overnight stays, in addition to private events and gatherings.
