Tihany takes on Turkey

Renowned hospitality design atelier Tihany Design and Mandarin Oriental Group have collaborated on their newest edition: Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus, Istanbul opening in October. Tihany Design has long collaborated with the Mandarin Oriental Group on past hotel projects including the likes of the Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, Mandarin Oriental Geneva in Switzerland, Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas, Mandarin Oriental New York, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park and a newly anticipated opening of the Mandarin Oriental Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

“The main source of inspiration for this project is the Bosphorus itself,” said Alessia Genova, managing partner, Tihany Design. “The famous waterway serves a defining role in the city’s history and character. In this way, the hotel is a contemporary ode to the city and its unique position in the world.”

Positioned along the glimmering shoreline with stunning panoramic views across the Bosphorus on the European side of Istanbul, this chic and luxurious urban resort is nestled in the Naile Sultan pine grove and the sophisticated Kuruçeşme district.

“The design of Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus, Istanbul reflects the essence of this great city. Bespoke materials and features throughout the hotel provide elements of surprise, creating a unique luxury experience that bridges together all the curiosities of the city’s rich and layered history, with an eye to an equally rich and colorful future,” Genova said.

Genova used marble, brass and glass as key elements for Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus, Istanbul’s contemporary setting to create alluring and comfortable spaces.

“The contemporary elegant design will cater to elite locals and international clients. We wanted to bring in a present-time vision with moments that captivate and pique interest. That said, the atmosphere is modern yet infused with stylish traditional Ottoman design references and flavors of Turkish style,” Genova said.

The hotel spa on level two is designed as a grand circular Zen garden. Genova said that it’s inspired by the city’s oriental heritage and is the first of its kind in Istanbul. Its tranquil indoor pool features a backlit ceiling cove inspired by Turkish landscapes.

“Looking at the bedrooms, the largest guest accommodation and perhaps the most impressive one in the city is the Royal Bosphorus Suite,” Genova said. “It unfolds in an eloquent arrangement of bold shapes and patterns, intimate spaces and standout materials. Featuring the striking quartzite and marble entry, liquid bronze painted wall panels, a marble-topped bar, a kitchen and two balconies.”
