This round of cancellations includes sailings up to December 16 on Carnival Spirit and Carnival Splendor. Both ships are homeported year-round in Australia.
The country has been closed to cruise ships since March 27, 2020. An updated memo on the Australian Government Department of Health website reads in part, “The Australian Government has extended the cruise ship ban to 17 December 2021, but this does not mean the ban will be lifted at that time.”
Since August, the country has seen a rise in cases.
Compensation Breakdown
Guests who want to postpone their cruise will get a 100 percent Future Cruise Credit and additional onboard credit. If a guest wishes to cancel their voyage, they will get a complete refund to their original form of payment.
- 6 nights or more: 100 percent Future Cruise Credit, plus AUD$900 onboard credit per stateroom on your next cruise if booked by 31 December 2021 for sailing by 30 September 2023.
- 5 nights or more: 100 percent Future Cruise Credit, plus AUD$450 onboard credit per stateroom on your next cruise if booked by 31 December 2021 for sailing by 30 September 2023.
Phased Restart in the United States

Back in North America, Carnival Cruise Line and other operators have started a phased-in approach to resuming operations. Carnival restarted from Miami and Port Canaveral on the east coast with Carnival Sunrise, Carnival Horizon, Carnival Magic, and Mardi Gras.The gulf coast is seeing Carnival Vista and Carnival Breeze sailing from Galveston. Over on the west coast, Carnival Panorama is sailing seven-night voyages from Long Beach.
On September 12, Carnival Pride is scheduled to resume operations from Baltimore.
Carnival Glory was supposed to restart operations from New Orleans on September 5 but was canceled because of Hurricane Ida. FEMA is chartering the ship through September 18.
The line recently announced that a majority of the fleet would be sailing by December 2021
