Low-cost US carrier Breeze Airways raises $200 million new funding

The parent company of new low-priced US airplane Breeze Airways said on Wednesday that it has shut down a 200 million USD Series B funding round. Black Rock Inc (BLK.N) and Knighthead Capital Management L.L.C funded and managed its accounts.

Breeze Aviation Group Inc earlier raised more than 100 million USD and began its flights in May.

Breeze is not serving 16 cities across the US and 39 routes.

The company said it would use the funding to broaden operations.

Breeze’s chief executive David Neeleman said on Wednesday that the carrier has had more than 100,000 passengers since launching operations.

At present, Breeze operates 13 airplanes plying between smaller US cities. These cities have little or no direct service from larger carriers.

Breeze is operating in cities like Florida, South Carolina, New Orleans, Tampa Virginia, Louisville, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Hartford, Connecticut, Akron, Ohio and Charleston.

Neeleman, in an interview, said the new funding showed that the airline was to stay in reality.

He also added that the funding would allow the carrier to be optimistic about some planes that might be available.

He stated that the airline needs to work for developing new routes where no other flights operate.

Neeleman said that Breeze was profitable on many routes at a variable cost basis and it is just getting the word out.

He ensured that this airline company is off to a good start.

Breeze resolves to take delivery of 60 new Airbus (AIR.PA) A220 aircraft in October. They will be delivered at a rate of about one per month for the next five years.

It plans to use the A220 aircraft on routes that take more than two hours’ flight time.

It is Neelemen’s fifth commercial airline startup including Jet Blue Airways Corp (JLU.O) and Canada’s West Jet.

He said that Breeze is the most capitalised start up in the history of US aviation so far.
