Israel has decided to lift COVID-19 regulations as the country recorder minimal new cases following a rapid nationwide vaccination campaign. In line with the pilot program to allow the first groups of vaccinated tourists to visit Israel, the Israel Health Ministry has announced that all remaining coronavirus restrictions will now be lifted.
Starting June 1, people are no longer required to show vaccination certificates to enter restaurants and entertainment venues. All capacity restrictions on businesses have also been lifted. There will also be no further limits on indoor or outdoor gatherings. The requirement to wear masks indoors will remain in place for the next two weeks while health experts evaluate whether the rule should also be lifted.
However, the current rules of the country related to international travel will continue to remain in place and all international travellers will be banned from entry. Although, the tourism ministry has announced that first-degree relatives, some experts, and vaccinated tourists participating in a pilot programme will be allowed entry. All other tourists will need to adhere to Israeli regulations.
On Tuesday, the nation recorded just four new positive cases of the virus, with only 350 actively sick people in Israel. The latest numbers stands in contrast of the 10,000 new cases every day and 88,000 active cases at the peak of the pandemic in 2021. Israel has obtained millions of doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. More than 90 percent of people in Israel aged 50 and over have already been vaccinated or recovered from the virus.
