KEY WEST CULTURE

The Marker Key West Harbor Resort has revealed a $3-million renovation of the modern, waterfront property, including its new Residence One & Two Bedroom Suites with spacious open-air balconies, located in the intimate and private residence, Harbor House, a secluded tropical escape of suites located on the ground floor and second floor, tucked away inside the Old Town resort along the sparkling Key West Harbor. The property has enforced a multi-pronged approach to health and well-being, providing guests with peace of mind while traveling to Key West, with intensive AHLA Safe Stay program cleaning standards.

The newly-updated spaces revive The Marker’s profound legacy of combining Key West’s rich history and tradition with charming character, modern amenities and sophisticated eclecticism. The Marker Key West Harbor Resort pays homage to the unique spirit of Key West, life at the end of the road, an escape from ordinary life on the mainland.

“The design was cultivated and inspired by the hotel’s lush gardens, location at the wharf’s edge and a sophisticated sense of unbuttoned island life so pervasive in Key West,” said Andrea Waldrop, designer, waldrop+nichols studio llc.

Located in the historic seaport at the foot of William St., The Marker is just steps from the waterfront boardwalk, al fresco dining, buzzing outdoor bars fishing charters, and only a couple blocks from legendary Duval St. and Mallory Square’s nightly Sunset Celebration—an active and celebrated part of Old Town Key West.

“The spirit of Key West’s township is colorful, bustling, unique and diverse,” Waldrop said. “This is balanced by the naturalness and sense of connection with nature, from the surrounding ocean and maritime lifestyle. Key West is a rich dichotomy of both, and we were able to capture this enchantment through design.”

The Marker Key West Harbor Resort immerses guests in a tranquil hideaway hidden among the Florida Keys’ world-famous attractions. The resort is a hidden sanctuary of lush tropical grounds with plenty of space for social distancing, including three saltwater pools, an open-air outdoor restaurant and bar for al fresco dining with ocean breezes. The low-rise nature of the property makes it easy to navigate without using elevators, along with expansive outdoor areas throughout the hotel.

“The Marker Key West is a sophisticated and eclectic boutique hotel nestled within a quiet enclave by the wharf. The design vibe is a sophisticated island chill, preserving the iconic Key West culture with honesty,” Waldrop said.

Guests can choose from one and two-bedroom layouts for The Residences. For maximum safety and comfort, guests can relax on their large private wrap-around balconies, with a view of Caroline St.  The renovated suites create more options for travelers seeking luxuriously appointed living spaces and bedrooms.

Immediately upon entering the 1,000-1,400-sq.-ft. suites, guests are met with eye-catching, contemporary artwork offset by warm oak floors, sumptuous linens and rattan furniture that evokes the feeling of a tropical beach resort. All guestrooms at The Marker are adorned large with scenic balconies and each suite features a mid-century modern wet bar.

“Artwork played a part in capturing the visual architectural history of Key West, as well as the color palette. We studied historic houses around the island and their palettes for authentic infusion in the suites. Texture and selected furniture pieces played its part in the form of rattan furniture. Rattan is highly versatile, home in a modern or historic aesthetic. The tension between modern abstracts, streamlined plumbing fixtures balanced alongside hand-made patterned bathroom tiles and embroidered textiles, lend both a sophisticated and bohemian chemistry to the room,” Waldrop noted.

The spa-like bathrooms feature a soaking tub and walk-in rain shower, handmade cement tiles, brass hardware and white countertops for a fresh, chic finish. Guestrooms additionally feature large soaking tubs and showers.

The hotel’s fitness center was also updated with new equipment. Additionally, the hotel’s newly updated meeting room accommodates up to 70 guests. Brimming with natural light, the indoor event space spans 655 sq. ft. with 11-ft. ceilings showcasing views of Old Town Key West.
