Embracing change, embracing our industry

 

If the past year has shown us anything, it’s that change is here. While this has meant some difficult decisions and short-term sacrifices, we’ve seen clearly that change is needed. With the American Hotel & Lodging Foundation (AHLA Foundation) announcing a new $5 million, multi-year commitment and action plan to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in the hotel and lodging industry, this a promising change that represents a shining beacon of hope for the industry.

“The AHLA Foundation Board of Trustees recognized that we can do more to build on our legacy of opening doors of opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, ethnicity or gender, and we believe that this bold, new five-year plan takes us one step closer to reaching that goal,” as Rosanna Maietta, president and CEO of the AHLA Foundation stated when this was announced. “This is a monumental example of an industry coming together to advance diversity, equity and inclusion, even at a time when COVID-19 has wiped out 10 years of job growth in the industry.”
