Staying inside the homes for almost 6 months, work-from-home Indians are rushing to the resorts and various other properties to unwind and also work from these destinations which is alternatively known as workactions. On October 2nd, resort operators witnessed 100% occupancy rate, bringing relief to some extent to the parched hospitality sector.
To quote Kavinder Singh, MD &a CEO, Mahindra Holidays, “Almost all the properties that are open witnessed full bookings for the October 2 weekend. We are witnessing higher occupancy with every passing week. There is a strong need and desire to get out of homes and experience nature.”
Mahindra Holidays has 59 resorts of which 45 are currently opened for its timeshare customers.
To quote Ramesh Ramanathan, CMD, Sterling Holidays, “There has been a steady increase in occupancy ever since we started to reopen our properties since unlock began. Yes, October 2 was full. I remain cautiously optimistic on the season ahead as we don’t want to see a second wave or rising Covid cases which will derail travel plans.”
It’s an encouraging sign though; Sterling Holidays has started receiving booking for its resort rooms for even January. “It is slowly picking up,” Ramanathan said.
