The government of Wales said on Monday that it would impose a 2-week sharp “firebreak” lockdown from Friday in which everybody apart from essential workers would have to stay at home.
Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford told that it will have to be sharp and deep in order to have the impact we need,” told reporters. “Everyone in Wales will be required to stay at home
All non-essential businesses will have to close.
First Minister Mark Drakeford said that “sharp and deep” new restrictions would last for 17 days and would require everyone except key workers to stay at home.
Meanwhile the deadlock over tier 3 restrictions in Greater Manchester, which have been resisted by leaders there since last week, may come to a head after further talks on Monday ended without a deal.
Mayor Andy Burnham has pressed for a Commons vote to break the “impasse”, while the government said that ministers were now “considering next steps”.
