Since the pandemic started this year, from 1.2 billion passengers who travelled with airlines, so far only 44 Coronavirus infection cases have been registered during in-flights, as per the recent report of the International Air Transport Association.
In a recent media briefing organized on Thursday, these figures have been presented by the IATA, which has explained that the incidence of contracting the deadly virus while flying is pretty low, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
To quote Dr. David Powell, IATA’s Medical Advisor, “The risk of a passenger contracting COVID-19 while onboard appears very low. With only 44 identified potential cases of flight-related transmission among 1.2 billion travellers, that’s one case for every 27 million travellers. We recognize that this may be an underestimate, but even if 90 per cent of the cases were unreported, it would be one case for every 2.7 million travellers. We think these figures are extremely reassuring. Furthermore, the vast majority of published cases occurred before the wearing of face coverings in-flight became widespread.”
The pandemic has hit the aviation Industry in a massive way. The sector keeps looking for new ways to bring an end to the monetary devastation caused by COVID. Earlier this month, the European Aviation industry requested the European Commission to make the use of the testing process rather imposing the rules of quarantine, to help bring back together the tourists stranded in different countries for the year-end holiday season.
In September, the International Air Transport Association called on the European governments to set up rapid and systematic COVID-19 testing as an alternative to quarantine in re-establishing global air connectivity.
IATA urged the European countries for months to reopen their frontiers and relax the preventive measures as ways to help the aviation and tourism
The Transport and Tourism Committee previously declared that tourism is on the edge of a massive fall down and almost 22 million people who work in this sector showed danger of losing their jobs, due to the pandemic situation.
