Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Healthy Sail Panel has lodged a submission to the CDC (Centres for Disease Control & Prevention) in the United States as the first steps to resumption of cruising. The Healthy Sail Panel consists of globally recognised experts experienced in various disciplines including public health, infectious diseases, biosecurity and marine operations. The panel spent the last 4 months studying how to best protect the health and safety of guests and crew. This very impressive 11 person panel made 74 recommendations across 5 core focus areas that every cruise operator should address and which are available to the entire cruise industry. The core focus areas include testing, screening and exposure reduction, sanitation and ventilation, response, contingency planning and execution, destination and excursion planning, and mitigating risks for crew members.
It is considered that this road map towards resumption of cruising in the US, could feasibly begin during the remainder of 2020. Hopefully these core protocols will inform and support our ongoing engagement with the Australian and New Zealand Governments towards development of a phased resumption of cruising in our region.
Talking of Royal Caribbean: the company is bringing 4 ships to our waters this summer to operate sailings around Australia, to NZ and the Pacific Islands. Even if you have cruised the region before, you may well consider a short breakaway close to home because on Royal Caribbean ships, it is all about the experience onboard. Royal Caribbean ships are a destination in themselves and they are fantastic value, especially on industry rates. They are built with families in mind: Tots, Teens and Inbetweens, but they also have beautifully appointed Solarium areas for adults only. There are so many included activities and varied entertainment onboard – you will never get bored, unless doing nothing is what you want. Multiple restaurants offering a large variety of gourmet menus from which to choose. In short, amazing opportunities for a fun packed great value holiday – action or chill out, your choice!
