More & more countries are easing travel restrictions

At present, more than half of the destinations world over has started simplifying the restrictions related to travel which was introduced in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the UNWTO has asserted this report in its recent update.

Even though several destinations are still exercising caution, UNWTO in its seventh edition of the “Covid-19 Related Travel Restrictions: A Global Review for Tourism” recognizes a current trend that’s going towards restarting tourism slowly.

Evaluating the restrictions up to September 1st, 2020, the research conducted by UNWTO found that a total of 115 destinations have eased restrictions in travel worldwide. This would signify an increase of 28 since 19 July. Of these, two places have lifted all of their restrictions, as the remaining 113 continue to have certain restrictive measures in place.

To quote UNWTO Secretary-General, Zurab Pololikashvili, “While we must remain vigilant and cautious, we are concerned about those destinations with ongoing full travel restrictions, especially where tourism is a lifeline and economic and social development are under threat.”

The Covid-19 Related Travel Restrictions report includes important information on the health and hygiene infrastructure at the destinations. Also, there is analyzing rate for new Coyid-19 cases and their notifications. This allows UNWTO to decide on the factors that are effecting the destinations’ on making a decision regarding restrictions simplifying.

Those destinations which have made travel restrictions easy have high to very high health and hygiene infrastructure parameter. Also, they tend to have comparatively low Covid-19 infection rates.
