North from Kalajoki is situated Raahe. Naturally beautiful and full of history. The Old Raahe is one of Finland’s best-preserved concentration of nineteenth-century wooden houses. The sea and archipelago, vibrant cultural life, and inviting museums make for a highly enjoyable stay in this historical town. The town’s main sources of livelihood have been commercial seafaring and shipbuilding since the 17th century.
In the north, only 250km down from Arctic Circle, is the Capital of Northern Scandinavia, Oulu. This port town consists of the cultural life of a modern business city. Oulu is called the Silicon Valley of the north as the city is a nationwide center of excellence focused on telecommunications, electronics, software, medical technology, and biotechnology.
