Portugal cancels virus quarantine and has been included in the U.K. safe travel list. Portugal announced safe travel destination after five months of coronavirus threat. The holidaymakers may once again visit Portugal as restrictions on traveling have been lifted. There will be no longer any quarantine policy after people return to Portugal.
The transport secretary, Grant Shapps, disclosed the changes in the government policy and shared that new data highlight that Portugal may be included in Travel Corridors. So, now the travel firms may start selling holidays to Azores, Lisbon, Madeira, and Algarve. However, Shapps warned stating that though the situation has changed, it might again alter with time and situation and need for quarantine may happen at any time.
The transport secretary spent two weeks in quarantine after it was suddenly reimposed on Spain on July 26. The decision will be implemented from Saturday August 22, and henceforth passengers from Portugal reaching U.K. airports will now be released from quarantine. However, those who have landed before are expected to complete 14 days in self-isolation.
The Foreign Office has further stated that Portugal has cancelled non-essential travel and also exempted travellers from the virus quarantine procedure. Along with other states mandatory quarantine was imposed on Portugal, but the government later on July 10, announced exemption of several countries from the quarantine norm, except Portugal. But, now a decision has been taken after reassessing the situation and hence Portugal is now included in the safe travel list of U.K.
