Uzbekistan has decided to resume domestic tourism activities in the country once again. The process would be gradual in nature and begin with the regions in the country that less affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Domestic tourism activities are set to resume starting June 1.
The Justice Ministry of Uzbekistan have also informed that the country is even considering gradual reopening of its border for tourists who will arrive from coronavirus free countries. On Thursday, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree with the aim of taking urgent measures to support the tourism industry. The ministry is taking initiatives to mitigate the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism sector.
Uzbekistan has already divided three levels of quarantine severity in the country earlier this month. Areas have been divided into red, yellow and green zones depending on the number of coronavirus cases and the severity of the COVID-19 situation of districts, towns and cities. Tour operators, travel agencies, hotels and cultural sites will be allowed to resume operation in regions that fall under green and yellow zone as defined by the country’s Special Republican Commission to Combat Coronavirus.
However, all activities have asked to observe stringent sanitary rules and other safety measures. The ministry has also informed of that inbound tourism of the country will also be restored gradually once citizens from countries allowed to enter Uzbekistan begin to arrive. The decree also is also planning to grant tax relief and other privileges for tour operators, travel agencies and hotels till the end of year.
