Global cruise software solution company, Rescompany (Resco), recently announced that it is planning to launch a new thermal screening system for cruise operators in light of the coronavirus pandemic. The system will offer advanced real-time health screening for passengers and crew on board. The company mentioned in a recent statement that the firm’s mobile apps can be used for the guest ground-transfer process, embarkation and can be continued throughout the entire journey in the cruise. The thermal screening process provided by the company begins right at the passenger’s home using a web portal.
Each guest can allow smooth pre-cruise registration, initial medical screening, surveys, and document updating right from the comfort of their own homes. While onboard, the system uses thermal imaging cameras that are equipped with powerful facial recognition software. The technology is enabled to repeatedly scan passengers as well as crew members as they pass through key checkpoints like pre-arrival, transfers, cruise terminal, gangway, lobby, safety areas, outlets, restaurants, and crew areas among others. It also records body temperatures and other valuable information that can be analysed by medical staff later.
According to Resco, the system is accurate to ±0.3°C and the system unobtrusively monitors the people flow at check-in by taking and recording each guest’s temperature. The facial recognition algorithms can identify an individual even when a protective face mask is worn. With the help of its real-time data processing, no reduction in embarkation is possible and even the human error is minimised though its automation quality. It also allows contactless temperature readings that effectively reduce the risk of cross-infection.
The company further added that the solutions allow for any data to flow seamlessly and securely to shore side offices or authorities when required. It also mentioned that the technology can maintain the privacy of the operational crew while also alerting them whenever a temperature measurement exceeds pre-defined thresholds. The system enables authorities to take rapid actions to address potential health issues.
