Acquisition adds 250 partner destinations; 120,000
subscribers, 8,000 new cycling routes and gives Outdooractive greater reach
into the French market.
Bavaria-based Outdooractive, Europe’s largest outdoor portal for hiking,
cycling, mountain biking or skiing has recently acquired mountNpass a digital cycling network based in Toulouse, in France.
MountNpass, is the market leader in France for cycling tourism,
with 250 destinations, 8,000 cycling routes, 120,000 subscribers and 60,000
fans on social networks and now integrated with Outdooractive will reach an
audience of over 7.3 million outdoor enthusiasts.
Commenting on the acquisition, Hartmut Wimmer, Founder and CEO of Outdooractive,
said: “mountNpass shares a real passion with the cycling community, covering
the entire spectrum from weekend enthusiasts to professional riders, which is
clearly evident, and highlighted by its market prominence.
“As such this will be a major benefit for all of our
partners, subscribers and users, as well as equipping us with a significant
opportunity for the company to broaden its activities and presence not only in
France, which attracted 89 million international visitors in 2018, but
internationally too.
“Whilst mountNpass will maintain its brand identity,
this latest step in our journey, represents more of a leap, as we seek to
develop our product offering and reach out to broader audience, both
geographically and in terms of profile,” added Wimmer.
The mountNpass project was founded in 2015 by current CEO, Frédéric Blavoux, borne out of a passion for cycling. Finding and
sharing the best routes and the most beautiful destinations, to cover a range
of cycling experiences including road, mountain biking, family and sports.
Cycling in Europe is becoming evermore popular, with more
than 20 million bicycles sold annually, Germany being the largest market.
However, in terms of the cycling tourism, the benefit to the European economy was
estimated by the European Parliament in 2012 to be worth 44 billion euros, with
2.2 billion cycle tourism trips and 20 million overnight stays.
Frédéric Blavoux, Founder and CEO of mountNpass, added
"By joining the Outdooractive group, the objective is twofold: to ensure
the company's sustainability on the one hand and to expand internationally on
the other, while enriching our products and services for a wider audience, on a
wider playing field. A wonderful opportunity for our professional partners and
our users.”
