Due to the coronavirus outbreak Heathrow welcomed 5.4 million passengers in February and the fall was because of the lowering demand on Asian and European routes.

A Heathrow official said that the demand will continue to weaken going into March and in the coming weeks there will be a further year-on-year decrease.

John Holland-Kaye, Heathrow chief executive said that the coronavirus threat is an increasing challenge for the UK and they were working day and night to ensure Britain’s front door is open and safe for the people and passengers.

They will be working with the government to limit the impacts this will have on UK.

Across all the Heathrow terminals regular deep cleansing has been introduced along with increased availability and provision of hand sanitisers.

At the airport, a dedicated Public Health England team remains in place which implements clinically-informed, evidence-driven processes which supports passengers showing symptoms of the virus.

More than  115,800 metric tonnes of cargo passed through the doors in February, which reflected 9.5 percent down due to the massive effect on global trade.
