After the Brexit transition period ends the current right of free movement will be surrendered and for British travelers how life will be from 2021 onwards remains uncertain.

Everyone is pretending that UK is still a member of the EU until the end of 2020.  Anywhere in the remaining member states, the British passport holders can travel anywhere.

Upton and including the date of expiry or 1 January 2021 UK travel documents will be regarded as full EU passports which comes first.

A UK passport will continue to be valid as a British travel document after Brexit and there is no need to renew.

The British passports will lose much of their power and become subject to additional constraints at the end of the transition.

There will be additional constraints like time, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (Etias). The prospective UK visitors to the Schengen area will have to apply online for permission to enter.

Most of the 27 remaining members of the European Union plus Ireland, Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein make the Schengen area and does not include Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland and Romania.

According to Europe, Etias is a pre-travel authorization system for visa-exempt travellers which is similar to the concept of the US Esta and Canadian eTA, which are not technically visas.

EU says that its key function is to verify if a third-country national meets entry requirements before travelling to the Schengen area.

But visitors need to apply in advance, provide personal information, pay money and be issued with a permit to cross a border.

Until 2022 there is no need to worry about this aspect of Brexit although the European Union hoped it would be ready by 2021. The data has slipped.

It will require personal information like the name, address, contact details, passport details and occupation.

They will also ask about the state of health, particularly any infectious diseases, one must provide of any serious convictions in the past 20 years.

Personal information including name, address, contact details, passport details and occupation (with your job title and employer, or for students, the name of educational establishment).

There will also be questions about your state of health, particularly any infectious diseases.

You must give details of any serious convictions in the past 20 years. The reason for travel, specific country you will first arrive and the address of the first night’s stay. This might be a problem for travellers who would like to make plans as they go along.

The information of the application will be checked against EU and relevant Interpol databases along with a dedicated Etias watch-list.

Individuals suspected of being involved in terrorism, armed robbery, child pornography, fraud, money laundering, cybercrime, counterfeiting will be picked out through the system.

Within a few minutes, a vast majority of the applications will be approved but if an application gets flagged then the decision might take as long as four days.
