Hilton announced the signing of a new LXR Hotels & Resorts property in Kyoto, Japan, marking the debut of the luxury brand in the Asia Pacific.
LXR Hotels & Resorts is Hilton’s collection of independent luxury hotels in which each property offers a unique and locally immersive experience that is deeply personalized and naturally woven into the fabric of the destination. While each hotel embodies a distinctive character and history, all LXR hotels are united through exceptional service and access to the extensive benefits and strength of the Hilton enterprise, for both owners and guests alike.
“The LXR brand is gathering momentum across the world – meticulously curating a portfolio that is truly spectacular and defined by deep partnerships with world-class owners, such as Tokyu Land Corporation,” said Feisal Jaffer, global brand head, LXR Hotels & Resorts. “Each LXR property will be unique – our main mission as a brand is to bring to life authentic and exquisite guest experiences while driving superior financial returns for our owners.”
In collaboration with esteemed real estate company, Tokyu Land Corporation, the new LXR property is scheduled to open in autumn 2021 as part of the 28.6-acre Shozan Resort Kyoto. This resort is home to some of Kyoto’s most-notable and idyllic Japanese gardens, historic Japanese architecture, authentic tea houses, and five unique restaurants offering authentic local cuisines.
The LXR portfolio continues to attract properties whose owners share in the passion and commitment to adventure-seeking luxury guests, delivering one-of-a-kind experiences in the most sought-after destinations around the world. The latest addition in Kyoto is the second franchise agreement between Hilton and Tokyu Land Corporation, following the success of KYUKARUIZAWA KIKYO, Curio Collection by Hilton in 2018.
“Japan is a popular destination for both business and leisure travel, and Kyoto has set tourism consumption records for five consecutive years topping one trillion yen,” said Matt Fry, senior vice president, development, Asia Pacific, Hilton. “Today’s much-awaited announcement builds on the expertise of Tokyu Land Corporation as well as Hilton’s legacy of delivering world-class luxury experiences. We are confident that this exclusive resort will redefine authentic and immersive luxury experiences in Kyoto.”
Located at the foothills of the Takagamine mountains in the northern part of Kyoto, the new 114-room hotel is within walking distance from the iconic Kinkaku-ji “Golden Pavilion” and other historic temples such as Koetsuji Temple and Genkoan Temple. As the city continues to draw more visitors, this area has developed as a luxury enclave that offers Michelin-starred restaurants and international luxury hotel brands.
“We are pleased to announce the opening of LXR’s first luxury hotel in Asia Pacific through our partnership with Hilton, following the success of our property in Karuizawa. The new hotel’s location is a place where guests can escape the hustle and bustle of the city. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors in this beautiful, historic area where the legendary Rinpa school, one of the major historical schools of Japanese painting, was established by Hon’ami Koetsu 400 years ago,” said Tatsuaki Tanaka, operating officer and head of hotel & resort business division, Tokyu Land Corporation.
