Digitalisation and sustainability – the main focus of ITB Berlin Convention

Participants at ITB Berlin Convention 2020 will be addressing the key topics digitalisation and sustainability, which is of decisive importance in the global tourism industry, at the CityCube as a part of the outstanding programme of events.

On the agenda experts, researchers, industry executives and policymakers will be providing information in their keynote speeches, there will be numerous discussions and interviews too.

For trade visitors, the media and exhibitors admission to the ITB Berlin Convention ( to be held between 4-7 March 2020) is free and the programme is also available online.

On March 4 a new event will be kicking off the convention at the first ITB Responsible Destination Day where participants will get to explore the topic of socially aware travel behavior on how to reach sustainability goals.

The Minister’s Roundtable will see discussion on sustainable destination practices. There will be a discussion on how expedition cruises can be made environmentally friendly.


The ITB Tourism for Sustainable Development Day will be held for the fourth time on March  5 by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).


The topics of discussion will be opportunities for women and during the ITB Deep Dive sessions at the CityCube the topic of Wise Dodo on Mauritius will be taken as an example.

Sören Hartmann, CEO of DER Touristik Group, and the Hon. G. P. Lesjogard, the tourism minister of Mauritius, will discuss the prospects for destinations in the face of the growing trend towards sustainability.

At the ITB Deep Dive sessions at the CityCube, taking the topic of Wise Dodo on Mauritius as an example, Sören Hartmann, CEO of DER Touristik Group, and the Hon. G. P. Lesjogard, the tourism minister of Mauritius, will discuss the prospects for destinations in the face of the growing trend towards sustainability. The WWF and Futouris will each present their concepts at two afternoon Deep Dive sessions where the focus will be on plastic waste. Martina von Münchhausen (WWF) and Prof. Harald Zeiss (Futouris) will hold the introductory presentations.

On ‘Climate Change, Global Warming, Weather Extremes’  a keynote speech by the climate expert Prof Hans Joachim Schellhuber will be held on March 6, ITB CSR Day. The ITB Marketing & Distribution Day will be March 5.
