The airport operator of Japan’s Narita International Airport announced that they will expand their schedules and accommodate late night flights.

The airport is located just about 40 miles outside Tokyo and has been a kind of problematic for travellers.

Passengers and staff on early and late flights were sometimes left stranded because of lack of off-hour transport.

The government is moving ahead with plans to authorize the building of integrated resorts that allow gambling. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics is around the corner and Japan is expecting to see 40 million annual tourists.  At Haneda, the city’s major airport that reopened for international flights a decade ago, the flight routes are being expanded so that more planes can land.

As more international travelers are preferring to fly in and out of Haneda, which is much closer to Tokyo, Narita airport is under pressure to become more user-friendly.

The Narita International Airport said in a statement that with a change in late-night flight regulations and routes, and the accompanying increase in customers, they have been working with various parties to expand restaurant and retail options at the airport, while also securing ways for people to access the airport late at night.

After might East Japan Railway and Keisei Electric Railway will operate three extra trains until 10 minutes. Keisei’s bus company will also offer two more buses until 30 minutes after midnight, taking travellers to Tokyo and many of those will connect with late trains still running in the capital.
