Passengers of Air Italy can opt for a non-binary gender option when booking making it the first European airline to provide such services.
One can select from the categories F( female) and M( male) or X(Other) for those who are not being able to identify themselves as male or female.
Travellers with corresponding gender neutral identification and travel documentation can avail the option.
International Air Transport Association approved changes to booking procedures to include additional booking options for non-binary passengers in the year 2018.
During booking Air Italy passengers can select the prefix ‘Mx’ which is a title used before a person’s full name or surname that indicated that they do not identify as either male or female.
Air Italy has been working with the Italian LGBT organisation Arcigay on other inclusivity initiatives.
In March this year United had introduced gender neutral options for passengers.
As per the travel documents and identification fliers with United can identify themselves as M (male), F (female), U (undisclosed) or X (unspecified).
Rossen Dimitrov, Air Italy’s chief operating officer stated that Air Italy is determined to lead the industry in inclusivity, and was so proud to be the first European airline to offer these inclusive booking options for their customers.
By introducing non-binary options on the website the airline reflects its values.
