This summer Turkey will be opening up a new ferry link with Greece post years of negotiations between the government in Ankara and Athens.

The new ferry service will start in June as Britain prepared to put up barriers to the Continental Europe. The new edition of the European Rail Timetable revealed that the Aegean Seaways will operate linking Lavrio which is 25 miles southeast of Athens , with Cesme which is 55 miles west of Turkey’s third city Izmir.

The expected time of the voyage will be seven hours, there will be a free bus connecting service that will run in conjunction with the ferry. There will be a wide range of connections from Athens and Patras ( here ferries arrive from Italy) to Lavrio and in Turkey from Cesme to Kusadasi and Bodrum.

Turkey has been lined with the Greek islands until now through a new ferries which is close to the Turkish shore like Marmaris to Rhodes.

The terrestrial travel to and through southeast Europe will considerably expand with the new link.

It was called a welcome development which will greatly expand horizon by Chris Woodcock, the editor of European Rail Timetable.

For the Interrail and Eurail ticket holders planning to include both Greece and Turkey in the itinerary will find it uselful.
