Carnival Freedom just emerged from a three-week dry dock in Freeport, Bahamas where she underwent an expensive refurbishment.
The recent renovations are part of Carnival’s $2 billion ship enhancement program that will enhance the guest experience on every ship that goes into dry dock. This was Freedom’s first dry dock since 2014.
Here are nine changes that were made to Carnival Freedom during her 21-day dry dock:
1. New Shops
Deck five received a new Carnival Adventures store that’s located by the coffee shop. The shop sells swimming shorts, sunscreen, snorkels, fins, and other gear to enhance your shore excursion experience.
More Fun Shops on deck five were also added, including The Carnival Store and branded spaces like Hip Fish.
2. Bonsai Sushi Express
On the starboard side of the Lido buffet, they added the popular sushi eatery called Bonsai Sushi Express. This space is a miniature version of Bonsai Sushi, that’s available on Carnival’s newer ships. Bonsai Sushi Express serves up made-to-order sushi rolls and sashimi. This is a for-fee venue.
3. Rebranded Deli
The deli in the lido deck marketplace has been rebranded to offer the newest food selections. The new deli menu offers items like hot sandwiches, hot dogs, fries and fresh baked cookies.
4. New WaterWorks Area Added
During the refit, Carnival took out the “Less Stress Pool” and hot tub on deck 10 and turned the area into a waterpark. The Waterworks area now features a 203-foot-long AquaTunnel slide and Carnival’s
signature 212-foot-long Twister slide along with a splash zone for kids.

5. Removed Spa Whirlpool
Inside Spa Carnival, they removed the whirlpool that was by the fitness center and built an aerobic room.
6. Moved the Golf Course
The miniature golf course now resides in the back of the ship in the once open space behind the funnel on deck 11, just inside the jogging track.
Before the refurbishment, the miniature golf course was right underneath the funnel on deck 12.
Deck 12 under the funnel looks to be an open space now.
7. Removed Hammocks in Serenity
Before the drydock, there were four hammocks on deck 14 in the adults-only Serenity area. The new deck plan shows that they have removed those hammocks, although they don’t seem to have put anything in their place.
8. Another Dedicated Internet Cafe
Originally the internet cafe was located on deck 5, near the coffee shop. The new Internet Cafe will be located in a space within The Millennium Lobby on the port side of the ship.
9. More Accessible Bathrooms
More accessible bathrooms were added to the ship. You’ll find new accessible bathrooms outside of The Posh Restaurant (aft main dining room) on decks three and four.
Another new restroom was installed outside of the International Aft Lounge (Punchliner Comedy Club) on deck five. And the last one was installed on Lido deck next to Guy’s Burger Joint.
Carnival Freedom sails six and seven-night sailings from Galveston to Mexico, Belize, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica.
