Khmer Times: What is the true purpose of Asian Cultural Council?
Mr Tha: It is a partner of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties. The ICAPP has over 350 political parties, starting right from ruling and opposition parties, all from 52 countries all over Asia.
The ACC was an effort of Cambodia, China, Russia and Nepal. In May last year, the ICAPP appointed Prime Minister Hun Sen as the ACC’s Honourary Founding Chairman. Also, it selected lawmaker Khuon Sudary as the Chairwoman of the ICAPP Standing Committee and lawmaker Suos Yara as ACC director-general.
At the time of the 10th General Assembly of the ICAPP in October in Moscow, a declaration helping the establishment of a cooperation contract with Unesco was declared. Having the bureau of the ACC headed by Cambodia contributes to the growth and development of the ICAPP’s role in offering platforms for intensifying cooperation with international organizations, like UNESCO.
Khmer Times: Why is it significant to arrange and host this event in Cambodia?
Mr Tha: It is very crucial – important in a sense that we are showcasing the diversity in terms of cultures in Asian countries that have rich cultural heritage. This is the reason why it is significant to have the international event to be organized in Siem Reap. The ACC will be introduced in Cambodia and Cambodia will get international support related to diplomacy, investment, trade, tourism, culture, and in several other fields. So, the international event is crucial because it will bring attract high-ranking officials as well as leaders from the executive and legislative branches of member countries.
By now, we have sent out invitations to over 50 ICAPP member countries and also ACC member countries. So far, 20 have confirmed.
This event will send across powerful message, informing the world that Cambodia has completely achieved peace, stability and economic development.
We will show the overseas audience that what they see with their own eyes is a much developed Cambodia.
Khmer Times: What number of guests you expect to attend the event?
Mr Tha: We hope to welcome around 700 guests. VVIPs from China, Indonesia and other countries in the region will take part. As for the ACC only, we have roughly 400 guests. On January 15th, a gala dinner is to be organized and we can anticipate Prime Minister Hun Sen to give his remarks at the launching of the ACC. Artists from more than ten countries will also take part.
