Sustainability expert Warren Campbell has been appointed as an ambassador to the Meetings Industry Association (mia) to lead sustainability.
The association is focused on maintaining sustainability and the campaign #20PercentLess initiative to promote less single-use plastic in the business meetings and events industry.
mia chief executive, Jane Longhurst, said that over the next few years sustainability will remain a key trend and focus. They are calling the industry to join their pledge to turn the tide on single-use plastic chain and cut down the sector’s reliance by 20 percent. He mentioned that it was the right time to appoint a leader who can ensure the importance of the campaign and the surrounding initiatives can be expressed.
Warren had earlier spearheaded a campaign as the general manager of 15Hatfields in 2008 to make the venue of central London’s most sustainable. 15Hatfields, which is part of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health currently has a zero waste to landfill due to the strict ‘no bottled water’ policy preventing one million plastic bottles dumped into the ground.
By 2019 it will go completely plastic free. Jane was delighted on his appointment and said that Warren has immense knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for sustainable practices. After his achievements at 15Hatfilelds they felt he was the perfect choice to help inspire their members and share best practices.
Warren Campbell, general manager of 15Hatfields was absolutely thrilled to be joining the mia board as a voluntary ambassador. He will use his experience to help encourage the industry to use less plastic and share best practice. By collaborative work a positive impact could be made.
