The Mayor of Athens Yorgos Kaminis presented the Municipality of Athens Christmas and New Year’s Eve program, which includes over 230 events and happenings which will take place for a period of four weeks across the city, in its neighborhoods, squares, parks, cultural spaces and theaters, int.ert.gr reports.
The Athens Mayor will officially launch the holiday season to the sound of music performed by the Greek capital's Philharmonic Orchestra and the children’s choir and a concert with Penny Baltatzi and the Athens Big Band.
Some of the program’s highlights include: “The Biggest Night of the Year” with K. Vita at the National Observatory on December 21. The unique Greek artist and musician creates sonic landscapes and brings his rhythms and music at the Hill of the Nymphs to welcome the Winter Solstice.
From December 22nd to December 30th, under the Christmas tree, young artists as well as tribute and jazz bands will perform at Athens’ central stage. This year, popular DJs and radio show hosts will participate at the Glass House Project, on December 29-30, where they will play music and raise money for charity.
The City of Athens will welcome the New Year at the Thissio pedestrian walkway with the Parthenon as a backdrop. The Athens Philharmonic Orchestra together with street and circus performers will set the mood in a celebration that will conclude in the wee hours of 2019.
